Discover Vietnam’s deep history, intricate culture, and modern vibrancy on this journey from the North to the South. Beginning in Hanoi, the elegant capital city, we’ll take in the city’s urban ambience and the many stories held within it. Depart on a luxurious two-night cruise on Halong Bay. Studded with dramatic, jungle-covered islands with secluded beaches, the bay is a part of Vietnamese mythology, and offers the chance to see maritime life in remote villages.
We enter central Vietnam in Hue, which was the imperial seat of the Nguyen dynasty. The royal legacy endures in the architecture of the town, as well as the courtly manner of its citizens. See the ornate Imperial Palace, protected by a series of moats, then take a lunch cruise on the Perfume River to the vast mausoleum of one of Vietnam’s greatest emperors.
Heading down the coast, cycle or walk around Vietnam’s largest lagoon, with views over the blue waters and countless oyster farms. Continue over the Hai Van Pass, with sweeping views over the open sea and Da Nang, Vietnam’s fastest-growing city. You’ll soon reach another world entirely: the UNESCO-protected old town of Hoi An. With its colorful history touched by different trading cultures, Hoi An’s foods, artisanal workshops, and beautiful countryside invite us to explore at leisure.
In Vietnam’s south, we’ll arrive in the Mekong Delta, staying two nights on an island on a wide river, near the city of Can Tho. It serves as our departure point for boat rides through floating markets, walks or bike rides along winding canals. See the way of life that grew up around the fertile river landscapes.
From the Mekong, we’ll travel through a winding series of rivers and canals into Ho Chi Minh City by speedboat for a dramatic arrival under the city’s soaring skyline. Pulsing with entrepreneurial energy, Saigon is at the vanguard of the country’s economic progress. Explore the famous landmarks of the city, from ancient temples to the backdrop of the war years. We’ll end in style with dinner at one of the city’s top restaurants to celebrate our journey through the many sides of Vietnam!
